Hong Kong Portraits

Hong Kong Portraits is a multi-volume publication focusing on the hidden urban realities of the city. Utilizing architectural drawing and graphics, it is neither an atlas nor a conventional set of plans, or even a traditional artist’s book. By re-reading Hong Kong through the conceptual lenses of ‘Duplications, ‘Slopes’, 'Waters, ‘Patterns, and ‘Insides’, the project endeavors to reveal undiscovered truths about the formation of Hong Kong’s urban landscape. By examining the space between these seeming contradictions the projects attempts to theorise a possible middle-ground option. This approach to a contemporary irrational form of rationality, is presented as the natural outcome of the historically rational manner in which the city has attempted to tame the irrationality of its environment.
