“FOUNDATION”

EUR 12.00 — Released 15 February 2015

For our first issue we looked at foundations and origin. How artists and brands profit from strong foundations and how their origin is influencing their work. In times where the creative world is developing and at the same time regressing in a rapid speed - what importance does a strong foundation have? Is origin still a strong factor in design or has the possibility to be easily exposed to all a vast field of different cultures weakened our relationship to our own roots?

We picked up these thoughts and explored the symbiosis of couture house GIVENCHY and designer Riccardo Tisci, as well as the craftsmanship history of UK’s export hits like New Balance and Fred Perry. We sat down with Adam Katz Sinding, who’s suitcase is his base these days, Filippa K, who pushes her Swedish roots forward with every step she takes, Alexander Stutterheim, who’s core design element is his natural northern melancholy and Harif Guzman, a Venezuelan street artist living in New York.
