“01. Journey”

GBP 12.00 — Released 1 November 2018

Point.51 explores the important issues shaping the future of Europe – one at a time. In each issue, we take on a single theme and explore it in depth and detail to produce a magazine filled with insightful long-form journalism and original photography.

In issue one, we explore the journey undertaken by asylum seekers searching for sanctuary, as well as that of the ordinary citizens living in the towns and communities caught up in the largest mass movement of people to and across Europe since World War II.

We learn why some Cuban asylum seekers are being drawn to Serbia, as entry to the United States has become more difficult; and hear how the residents of La Roya responded when thousands of asylum seekers suddenly arrived in their otherwise quiet valley. We visit Calais, a city known to most only as the former site of the “Jungle”, as it attempts to rebuild a troubled tourism industry; and newly-arrived asylum seekers share their mixed experiences as they navigate British society. We hear from those who call Ireland home while having a dual sense of national identity; and we visit Istanbul as record snowfall brought the city to a stop.
