Corduroy

Our magazine is based on the idea that a corduroy jacket never goes out of style. In the same way, we profile actors, musicians, designers and fine artists who aren’t looking to follow mainstream trends, but rather focused on creating something classic.

In screenwriting as in life, there’s something called the “second act.” On screen, it plays out through a final feat of redemption or discovery; the moment when the fragile protagonist rises up to conquer his fears and defeat the enemy. Off-screen, the premise may be different, but the process just as significant. If the “first act” is where you’re introduced to the world, the “second act” is where you leave your mark.

This issue of Corduroy is all about second acts. To celebrate our tenth release, we decided to feature ten of our favorite models on ten separate covers. While countless magazines have featured models, they’re usually the “new faces” of the season and used to showcase an outfit or trend. We wanted to pick models who we’ve grown to know and love over the years; people with names to go along with their faces and stories to go along with their names.

For these ten women, their successes were once measured by the number of runways walked and campaigns booked, but years later, their influence is felt in other ways: raising a family, setting new industry standards, or overcoming adversity and stereotypes to stand out – and stay standing – in the ever fickle world of fashion.

In a Victorian mansion in London or in the hills of Topanga Canyon, these women are living out their second acts and leaving their mark on more than just the modeling world. After reading their stories in this issue I hope you’ll agree that they’ve left an indelible mark on all of us as well.
