Dazed & Confused

Founded by prodigious photographer Rankin and writer and cultural enthusiast Jefferson Hack, and taking its name (and freewheeling spirit) from the classic Led Zeppelin song, Dazed & Confused started life as a limited-run fold-out poster in 1992. Early cover stars profiled by Hack included Bjork, Harmony Korine and David Bowie, who all contributed to the magazine over the years. Also on the cover in the early days were PJ Harvey, Damien Hirst, Richard Ashcroft, Chloe Sevigny, Pulp's Jarvis Cocker, Robert Carlyle, Kate Moss and Milla Jovovich. It was during this time that Dazed cemented its growing international reputation for daring to extend its editorial remit beyond fashion, music and film not just to include art and literature, but to tackle local and international social and political themes.

“TEMPTATION”

GBP 4.00 — Released 12 September 2012

Sam Riley, star of the hotly anticipated On The Road flick, is this issue's cover star together with model of the moment, Joan Smalls. Shot by Sean and Seng and styled by Dazed's fashion director Karen Langley and senior fashion editor Robbie Spencer, the pair feature in a sumptuous dual shoot.

The issue feature over 70 pages of fashion, shot by the likes of Danko Steiner, Pierre Debusscherre, Jeff Bark and Yelena Yemchuk, while the duo behind rising label Creatures of the Wind talk through the electric designs that have won them unanimous applause since their first collection proper, for SS11.

Flying Lotus, Kendrick Lamar and How to Dress Well share the love amid an emerging wave of emotion and sincerity, and Bat for Lashes talks candidly about her new album. We report from the frontlines of Spain’s “lost generation”, as the country's young people battle unemployment and recession; illustrator Julie Verhoeven continues her art residency; and, one year on from the birth of Occupy, radical academic Mark Fisher “imagines imagining” a world after capitalism.
