Food is a permanent presence in the history of art. In current photography its representation changes of sense: from the passage of time to the social and cultural level. Photography today shows everything that surrounds food and makes it a social portrait of who we are. From the raw material, its handling, packaging, markets, stores and supermarkets, until the leftovers arrive in the trash, we review the entire food process. The purchase first; then the kitchen: the transformation of food, its preparation and the ritual of a good table; and all the necessary instruments. The act of eating, between the public and the private, between obscene and religious, this primary need becomes a social act. Finally, the leftovers, all the excess of a society whose waste could feed half of the population that starves.
