FAKE is an independent visual arts and fashion magazine started by a graphic designer and a fashion stylist. The inspiration behind the publication was discovering that there was a wealth of unseen talent amongst our peers. We realised we had the perfect opportunity to showcase young, gifted, independent creatives. Not only this, there were many interesting projects happening under the radar that we believed deserved more recognition.

What’s inside The Dreams Edition…
Caroline Simpson tells us how ‘secret desires within us always begin with a place’ as she writes of the dream home, with beautiful accompanying illustrations from Pippa Stewart. ‘Night Shift’ is an article by Rachael Marian exploring our consciousness, or lack thereof, during the midnight hours; and keeping with the theme, Miriam Sturdee discusses nightmares and the science behind them. The word ‘dream’ represents many things and we also have articles from Laura Booth, Sarah Seaton and Kate Pearson on the topics of ambition, shifting focus and, being an astronaut (the career choice of many children).
Illustrator Lee Crutchley invites us to ‘Draw Our Dreams’; for the first time, we want you, the reader, to add the finishing touch to your copy of FAKE. Ed J Brown provides the illustration as the backdrop to Olivia Smith Nicholls’ short story ‘Wishful Thinking’, and we enjoy the quirky poetry of Paul Askew, brought to life in illustrative form by MSTR Gringo.
In addition, Sarah-Jane Watkinson teaches us about edible flowers and we have yet more wonderful illustration and print courtesy of John Williamson, Chantal Mayhew, Jimmy Rogers, Tim Hunt, Abigail Hutton, Tom Camp, Holly Trill, Rebecca Truscott-Elves and Charlotte Audrey.
Our regular back page feature is written by the always funny Michael Pope-Presley as he discusses why he thinks being fake is, in fact a good thing. We also have three beautiful fashion editorials, as ever featuring the work of our favourite up and coming designers.
