Published in October 2012 to coincide with the launch of Frieze Masters Art Fair, the magazine looks at art from all eras through contemporary eyes. An extensive features section includes an interview with art historian and novelist Marina Warner; Sam Thorne on the history of artists' studios; and Amelia Groom on the recent wave of exhibitions mixing contemporary work with historic collections. In an extensive survey, contemporary artists nominate a work of art from the past that has influenced their own artistic evolution - including Chris Ofili on Titian, Grayson Perry on William Hogarth, and Susan Philipsz on Botticelli. Nicholas Penny, Director of the National Gallery, responds to the Questionnaire. In an unusual large format, the publication is visually led and designed by Sonya Dyakova, Art Director of frieze. An index provides information about the galleries participating in the fair.
