Street Art has very much evolved ever since the first walls and subways in NYC. The expression has become corny, for everyone use it in the wrong. Nowadays, luxury brands want to team up with these legends that started the movement, which then went worldwide. Whether it is good or bad, we could talk about that for years. Street Art... That’s an enormous topic with all kind of polemical wondering. Pro/Against, street/ gallery or both, message/no message... We asked ourselves all these questions but we thought it was better to let the artists talk. We were touched by all the messages conveyed by these people. Through their works, and for several, through their struggles, we have travelled to Brasil, Argentina, Russia, Ukrain, Mexico, Egypt, Senegal, Palestine, France, Italy. From the installation protesting against individualism, to the huge, hypercolored artworks, there’s something we’ve noticed, and that, no one can prove us wrong : a work in the street will never have the same impact on people and on the world as a work of art in a gallery. For the artists, and everyone agrees, street equals meeting people, sharing things, wondering and trading things. Works that mean everything once they’re in the streets. All you have to do is read this 36th issue of Shoes-Up. Have a good trip.
