Here comes the sun…..and we’ve got that holiday feeling so pack up the melamine picnic set as the modernist is getting Carried Away to Birmingham and beyond.
The post-war period hailed a stream of innovations and technological advancements which changed the way we experience travel. Eastern Europeans avoided surface chaos by hurtling through a network of subterranean cold war pop tunnels. The thrilling promise of the overhead monorails at fun fairs and Expos was never fully realised but the launch of the M1 in 1959 set us off on a tarmacked gateway to the world, well to the Midlands at any rate. The coach trip had never been so glamorous and the enchantment of picking up a pasty in the nowhere land of our nation’s great service stations has yet to be bettered for some.
We also take a journey from one of the country’s most impressive docks, as it undergoes some questionable changes and admire a truly streamlined ship .
So, tickets please and get ready to ride!
