The modern world remains highly suspicious of wanderers—yet, paradoxically, upholds the systems and policies that make it inevitable. Transient began with a question of the meaning intrinsic in our spatial existence. What is the nature of human settlement, or what structures do we erect that become deterministic at very basic levels of interaction. Through an examination of temporary dwellings and restrictive barriers a picture forms of the intense interconnectedness of movement and the built environment—as well as the prejudice that specific norms of habitation/movement engender.
