Northern entertainment for the middle-aged. Fed up with style-over-substance magazines? You've come to the right place.

Barmcake is a 36-page, A5, full colour magazine that comes out twice a year and is available free in 40+ venues in West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, Sheffield, New Mills and Glossop. I can also post copies if you send a minimum £2 donation.

I started the magazine because I felt there was nothing out there to cater for a person of a certain age who likes particular music, comedy, pubs, plays, exhibitions and books. Most entertainment magazines tend to target the under-40s and ignore many interesting performers.

I was also fed up of reading beautiful-looking magazines full of flabby features and boring interviews. I wanted to concentrate on the text rather than the design: I'm inspired by the inkies of the 80s (NME and Sounds) rather than the style mags of that time.

I write most of the articles, design the issues, edit them, and deliver them.
