Info
Sukoon is an Arab-themed, English language, online literary magazine reflecting the diversity and richness of the Arab world.
Sukoon is the first of its kind in the Arab region, where established and emerging artists, poets and writers of short stories and personal essays, publish their original work in English.
Artists and writers need not be Arab, nor of Arab origin, but all art and writing must reflect the range and richness of the cultures of the Arab world, where Arabic is spoken—a Semitic language with over 30 different varieties of colloquial Arabic.
Sukoon is an Arabic word meaning “stillness.” What we mean is the stillness discovered within, as the artist continues to follow his/her creative calling—a calling that compels the artist to continue on his/her creative path for the sole reason that he/she does not know how not to.
Sukoon is also a phonetic symbol used in the Arabic script.
